Biographical Information[edit]
Relief pitcher Kyle Hunter has played in the Seattle Mariners system since 2011.
He was originally drafted out of high school by the Tampa Bay Rays as the first pick in the 33rd round of the 2008 amateur draft, but he did not ink a contract. He was then taken by the New York Yankees as the last pick of the 43rd round of the 2010 amateur draft, but once again, he did not sign. He finally inked a contract after the Mariners took him in the 31st round of the 2011 amateur draft.
In his rookie professional season, Hunter was 3-2 with 2 saves and a 1.72 ERA in 20 appearances for the Pulaski Mariners and Everett AquaSox. In 47 innings, he walked only 9 batters and had 62 strikeouts. In 2012, he was 4-5 with 3 saves and a 2.98 mark for the Clinton LumberKings and in 2013, he was 4-1 with a save in 42 games between the High Desert Mavericks and Jackson (TN) Generals. In 2014, he went 5-3, 3.25 in 38 appearances for the Generals; in 2015, he was 4-2, 2.84 between two clubs; in 2016, he went 3-4 4.13 between three teams (including the Triple A Tacoma Rainiers) and in 2017, he was 4-0 with a 4.25 ERA in 31 games between two teams, one of them again the Rainiers.
He is related to Hall of Famer Luke Appling.
