Biographical Information[edit]

Kwang-woo Lee pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization for 14 years.

Lee played for the South Korean national team in the 1986 Amateur World Series, 1987 Asian Championship, 1987 Intercontinental Cup, 1988 Baseball World Cup and 1988 Olympics. He was 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA in the 1988 Cup, beating Wendell Elizabeth of the Netherlands Antilles and Hector Gutierrez of Puerto Rico while losing to Team USA's Jim Abbott.

The Haitai Tigers selected him in the first round of the 1989 KBO draft, and he went 5-4 with a 4.52 ERA in his first season. Lee then went 2-5 with a 5.91 ERA in 1990, and he struggled again in 1991 as his ERA was 6.16 in 16 games. He was traded to the OB Bears for Noh-jun Park after the 1991 season, and he had a 4.51 ERA in 31 games with 6 saves in 1992.

The Iksan native improved to 7-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 1993, then he went 8-4 with a 2.29 ERA in 1994. Lee missed most of the 1995 season due to injuries, and he only pitched 17 games with a 5.06 ERA in 1996. His ERA was 4.54 in 29 games in 1997, and he was 5-6 with a 4.33 ERA in 1998. Lee slumped to 9-8 with a 5.43 ERA in 1999, and he had a 11-3 record with a 3.70 ERA in 1999. However, his ERA rose to 5.40 in 29 games in 2000, and the Bears released him. He then signed with the LG Twins, but he surrendered 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings then he announced his retirement.

He was the pitching coach of the KIA Tigers from 2004 to 2005 and in 2007, and he coached their minor league team in 2003, 2006 and from 2008 to 2009. Lee was an assistant coach for Sungkyunkwan University in 2010, and he coached Hwasun High School from 2011 to 2013. He returned to the Doosan Bears as their pitching coach in 2014, and he coached their minor league team from 2015 to 2024.

Overall, Lee was 66-65 with a 4.46 ERA, struck out 504 and pitched 1,090 innings in 14 seasons in the KBO.
