Biographical Information[edit]

Kuo-Chin Wang pitched in the CPBL for 4 years. His cousin is former CPBL pitcher Chih-Hua Hsu.

Wang represented Taiwan in the 1996 World Youth Championship, and he was drafted by the Chinatrust Whales in the first round of the 2004 CPBL Draft. Wang pitched well in his rookie year, having a 6-6 record with a 2.66 ERA in 53 games. He was 3rd in appearances (4 behind Ming-Chin Lee) and he broke the CPBL record for most game pitched as a rookie (broken by Yu-Chieh Shen in the next year). Wang was also selected into the 2004 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched 2 shutout innings to get a hold.

The Taitung native was selected into the 2005 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched an inning with a run allowed to notch a hold. However, he suffered from a disease, and he underwent a surgery that removed his left kidney in 2005. Wang never recovered from it, and he had a 11.57 ERA in 2006. The Whales released him after he spent his 2007 season in the minor league, and the Sinon Bulls picked him up. Wang had a 5.35 ERA in 26 games in 2008, then the Bulls released him and his professional career ended.

Wang's repertoire included a fastball(tops out at 91.3 mph), curveball, slider and changeup.

Overall, Wang was 7-9 with a 3.51 ERA, struck out 169 and pitched 223 1/3 innings in 4 seasons in the CPBL.
