Biographical Information[edit]

Chih-Hua Hsu pitched in the CPBL for 5 years. His cousin Kuo-Chin Wang was an All-Star in the CPBL.

Hsu represented Taiwan in the 1995 World Youth Championship, 1996 World Youth Championship and 1999 World Junior Championship. The La New Bears selected him in the first round of the 2004 CPBL Draft, and he had a 4.70 ERA in 27 appearances in his rookie year. Hsu then went 4-7 with a 4.48 ERA in 2006, and he relieved Ramon Morel in the 11th inning of the 2006 Taiwan Series Game 6. He pitched a shutout inning with 2 strikeouts against Sen Yang and Lien-Hung Chen, and he got the win thanks to Chih-Wei Shih's walk-off hit. He then pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings in Game 2, and he won his only title as the Monkeys swept the Uni-President Lions.

The Taitung native slumped to a 5.66 ERA in 28 games in 2007, and he pitched 2/3 of a shutout inning in 2007 Taiwan Series Game 1. He then surrendered 3 runs in 3 2/3 innings in Game 4, and the Lions beat the Bears in 7 games. Hsu's ERA was 4.48 in 29 appearances in 2008, and he pitched 20 games with a 4.70 ERA in 2009. He was then involved in a game-fixing scandal, and the league banned him for life.

Hsu's repertoire included a fastball (peak 89.4 mph), a curveball, slider, changeup and sinker.

Overall, Hsu was 12-16 with a 4.32 ERA, struck out 200 and pitched 300 2/3 innings in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
