Biographical Information[edit]

Kuan-Wei Yang caught in the CPBL for 5 years.

Yang played for Taiwan in the 2005 Asian Youth Championship and 2007 Asian Junior Championship. Backing up Kun-Sheng Lin in the 2010 Haarlem Baseball Week, he went 3 for 12 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and a RBI in four games. In the 2010 World University Championship, he was 9 for 14 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, two walks, seven runs and 11 RBI in five games as Taiwan's top hitter. He drove in five runs in the 5th/6th place game but Taiwan lost 15-14 to Canada. Yang was the starting catcher for Taiwan in the 2011 World Port Tournament. He hit .394/.474/.545 with 8 runs in 8 games and threw out half of the eight runners who tried to steal on him. Taiwan beat Cuba in the finale to win the event. He remained with Taiwan for the 2011 Baseball World Cup.

The EDA Rhinos selected Yang in the fourth round of the 2012 CPBL Draft, and he hit .270/.286/.378 in 23 games in 2013. He won the competition with Yu-Ying Lin in 2014, and he hit .319/.346/.472 with 8 homers. Yang won the Best Ten as a catcher, and he also attended the 2014 CPBL All-Star Game. He was 1-for-3 in the All-Star, and that hit was a solo home run against Jung-Hao Hsieh in the 7th inning.

Yang attended the All-Star Game in the next summer, but he was 0-for-2. Yang ended up hitting .300/.337/.441 with a career-high 11 homers in 2015. However, he slumped to .262/.303/.393 in 2016 and Lin took back starting catcher spot. Yang was 0-for-1 in the 2016 Taiwan Series, and he won his only Taiwan Series title as the Rhinos beat the CTBC Brothers in 6 games. He only played 33 games in 2017 with a .250/.310/.368 batting line as the backup of Ke-Wei Fang. Yang was released after the 2017 season, and his professional career ended.

Overall, Yang hit .294/.329/.434 with 2578 hits, 39 doubles and 25 homers in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
