Biographical Information[edit]

Kieran Mattison played in the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians minor league systems from 2002-2005. After spending 2006-2007 in the independent leagues, Mattison returned to affiliated ball in 2008 in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. For the minor league portion of his career, Mattison went 19-13 with 29 saves and an ERA of 3.57. He finished his playing career in 2010 with the Camden Riversharks of the independent Atlantic League.

On April 1, 2009, Mattison made his CPBL debut with the Sinon Bulls, allowing five baserunners and 2 runs in 2 innings against the Uni-President Lions but getting the win in a 8-7 slugfest. He was 1-1 with a save and a 3.86 ERA in 6 games then was released to make room for Pedro Liriano. He was named head coach of the Paris Université Club for 2013, succeeding Jeff Stoeckel. He coached for the French national team in the 2014 European Championship and 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

Mattison joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2015 as a bench coach for the Indianapolis Indians. The next season he served as a hitting coach for the GCL Pirates. He then became a manager with the DSL Pirates in 2017, the West Virginia Black Bears in 2018, and Bristol Pirates in 2019. Mattison was slated to manage the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2020 before the minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He did manage the Grasshoppers in 2021. After the latter season, he coached the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.

In 2022 Mattison played a dual role with the Pirates - manager of the Altoona Curve and Minor League Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator. He repeated the coordinator role in 2023. Mattison returned to managing in 2024 as the leader of the FCL Pirates.
