Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Kevin Encarnacion began his professional career in 2010 after being signed by the Chicago Cubs on May 29 of that year. The scouts were Jose Serra and Carlos Reyes

He played in the Dominican Summer League his first three campaigns. In 2010, he stole 15 bases, in 2011, he stole 28 bases, had 11 triples (to only four doubles) and posted a .396 on-base percentage and in 2012, he hit .308/.447/.465 with 12 swipes. In his first season stateside, in 2013, he hit .319/.399/.504 with 11 stolen bases in 58 games between the Boise Hawks and Kane County Cougars. His time with the Hawks was especially impressive: In 42 games, he hit .355/.431/.566 to earn Topps Short-Season/Rookie All-Star honors. He led the Northwest League in both average and slugging.

He didn't play in 2014 after being involved in a car accident, which also included fellow ballplayer Jose Zapata, in January. Zapata suffered a broken neck.
