Biographical Information[edit]
Kevin Comer was a first-round pick in 2011.
Comer started 2011 with a 4-0, 1.67 record, 49 K, 15 BB and 14 hits in 29 1/3 innings. His fastball was timed as high as 95 mph and he had a recruitment to Vanderbilt University. The Toronto Blue Jays then took him 57th overall in the 2011 amateur draft. The choice was compensation for the loss of Miguel Olivo. It was Toronto's fifth first-round pick that year, following Tyler Beede, Jacob Anderson, Joe Musgrove and Dwight Smith, Jr. He was the fourth first round pick from a South Jersey high school, following Ryan Luzinski, Billy Rowell and Mike Trout. The scout was Bobby Gandolfo.
Comer made his pro debut on June 21, 2012, for the Bluefield Blue Jays. Facing the Bristol Sox in the first game of a doubleheader, he allowed two runs in four innings (including a Keon Barnum homer) in taking a 8-6 loss.
