Biographical Information

Tyler Beede was a first-round draft pick in 2011 and again in 2014. He made his big league debut in 2018.

Beede was 6-1 with a 1.08 ERA in 2010. After his senior year of high school, the Toronto Blue Jays took him with the 21st pick of the 2011 amateur draft. Beede's fastball had been timed as high as 93 mph and he had a commitment to Vanderbilt University. He was expected to be a difficult sign due to a strong commitment and, indeed, was the only one of the 33 first-rounders not to sign with the team that selected him. He was selected again in 2014, this time with the 14th pick, by the San Francisco Giants and scout Andrew Jefferson and signed a contract on July 7 for $2.65 million. He made his pro debut with the AZL Giants on July 31, although he was expected to be quickly reassigned to a higher level of competition. He went 0-1, 3.00 in 6 starts in 2014, moving up to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League after four games. In 2015, he started the year with the San Jose Giants of the California League, going 2-2, 2.24 in 9 starts. He moved up to the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League, where his record was 3-8, 5.23 against the higher level of competition. Combined, his record was 5-10, 3.97, with 86 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings. In 2016, he was back at Richmond where he went 8-7, 2.81 in 24 starts with 135 strikeouts in 147 1/3 innings. His 2017 season was affected by injury, as he made just 19 starts in Triple A with the Sacramento RiverCats, going 6-7, 4.79.

He started the 2018 season in the minors and was originally supposed to return to Sacramento, but because of inclement weather, the Giants instead sent him to Class A San Jose where he made one start, giving up a run on a lone hit in 5 innings. On April 9, the Giants announced that he was being called up to The Show and he made his debut the following day, giving up 2 runs in 4 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks for a no decision. It would be a year and change later, June 17, 2019, before he earned his first big league win, besting the Los Angeles Dodgers with 6 innings of one-run ball in a 3-2 victory.

Off the field, Tyler is a rap fan and has made some of his own compositions and performances available on his website. He married actress Allie DeBerry in 2017.
