Biographical Information

Juan Cedeno was signed by scout Robinson Garcia for the Boston Red Sox at age 17. He debuted with the 2001 DSL Red Sox, going 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA, striking out 77 in 64 innings while allowing 45 hits. He came to the US in 2002 with the GCL Red Sox, posting a 2-5, 4.19 record. Moving up to the Augusta GreenJackets in 2003, Cedeno was 7-9 with a 3.02 ERA, allowing a .235 average. Baseball America rated him as the #9 Red Sox prospect.

In 2004, the Dominican southpaw went 7-6 with a 4.64 ERA for the Sarasota Red Sox. He began 2005 with the Wilmington Blue Rocks but was only 2-6 with a 5.49 ERA after 22 games. He was then traded to the Kansas City Royals with Chip Ambres for Tony Graffanino. He went 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA for the Wichita Wranglers following the deal.

Cedeno struggled in 2006 with Wichita as well, going 2-9 with a 5.78 ERA and walking 78 in 90 1/3 IP. He was only two walks behind Texas League leader Juan Morillo and he led the circuit with 16 wild pitches. He had a 3.78 ERA that winter for the Licey Tigers. With Wichita in 2007, Cedeno had a 3-2, 6.33 record in 35 games, allowing a .312 average though his control returned (27 BB in 69 2/3 IP). He had a 1-0, 1.54 record that winter with Licey.

The Washington Nationals signed Cedeno in November 2007, but the next month he was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the AAA phase of the 2007 Rule 5 Draft. Cedeno pitched for Licey when they won the 2008 Caribbean Series.

In the summer of '08, Juan pitched for the Erie SeaWolves (3-2, Sv, 4.64 in 28 G) and Lakeland Flying Tigers (1 R in 6 IP). He then found his way to the Los Angeles Dodgers system, where he was 0-4 with a 4.22 ERA in six starts for the Great Lakes Loons.

Cedeno was signed by the Sinon Bulls for 2009 but was let go in late March; it is unclear if he appeared in a game for them in the CPBL prior to his release. He then signed with the Doosan Bears in Korea to replace Matt Randel. He debuted on May 26 with a scoreless relief inning (allowing one hit) against the Seoul Heroes.

In the 2009 KBO, Cedeno went 4-7 with a 5.70 ERA in 27 games, allowing 105 hits in 71 innings.
