Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Juan Bustabad was drafted in the 1st round (5th overall) of the 1979 amateur draft by the Oakland A's. He didn't sign and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1980. Bustabad played in the minors through 1989, reaching AAA with the Albuquerque Dukes.
Bustabad began his coaching career in the Los Angeles Dodgers' organizaion in 1990 as coach for the Yakima Bears. He was roving infield coach in 1992, and coach for the Lethbridge Mounties in 1993. Moving to the Florida Marlins' chain, he managed the GCL Marlins in 1994-1996. In 1997, he managed the Utica Blue Sox, and in 1998 the Kane County Cougars, also Marlins affiliates. In 1999 he was the hitting coach for the Brevard County Manatees. In 2000, Bustabad returned to the Dodgers managing the Great Falls Dodgers. In 2001, he managed the GCL Dodgers, and in 2002 managed the Vero Beach Dodgers. He was the hitting coach for the Ogden Raptors in 2003 and for Vero Beach in 2004. Bustabad managed the Ogden Raptors in 2005, the GCL Dodgers again in 2006-2007 and the Great Lakes Loons in 2008-2010.
