Biographical Information

Joshua Roberts is a former minor league player.

Roberts went 1 for 4 with 3 walks, two runs and two RBI for Queensland in the 2004 Claxton Shield. He hit .200/.368/.267 in the 2004 World Junior Championship but stole three bases to tie Ji-soo Kim for the lead. Signing with the Cleveland Indians, he hit .195/.286/.195 in 17 games that summer for the Burlington Indians, with 6 passed balls in 12 contests at catcher. In the '05 Claxton Shield, he was 1 for 11 with 3 walks and a run for Queensland. He was a utility man for the 2005 Burlington club, playing left field, first base and catcher and hitting a meek .212/.319/.321 in 50 games.

With Queensland in 2006, he excelled, going 8 for 22 with 8 walks, a homer, 9 runs and 4 RBI in 7 games. He was 2 for 3 with two runs in the finale to earn MVP of the championship. For the Claxton Shield, he was second in runs (one behind Peter Moylan), 4th in walks and tied for 4th in OBP (with Brad Dutton). He ended his US career in 2006, batting .209/.274/.301 in 46 games for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (as a third-stringer at 1B and backing up Cirilo Cumberbatch in RF) and going 4 for 17 with a walk for the Lake County Captains. Overall, he hit .209 in 117 minor league games.

He was only 3 for 26 with a double, homer, walk, four runs and two RBI for Queensland in the 2007 Claxton Shield then did not appear in 2008, 2009 or 2010. He returned with the Brisbane Bandits in the 2010-2011 Australian Baseball League and did very well, hitting .319/.400/.548 with 10 doubles, 7 home runs, 25 runs and 30 RBI in 36 games. Now an outfielder, he was among the Australian Baseball League leaders in average (5th), OBP (9th, between Robbie Widlansky and David Kandilas), slugging (5th, between Ronnie Welty and Quincy Latimore), OPS (5th, between Andrew Russell and Latimore), runs (tied for 8th), doubles (tied for 2nd, behind Widlansky), homers (tied for 5th) and RBI (tied for first with Jamie McOwen).

Joshua remained productive with the 2011-2012 Bandits, producing at a .308/.343/.516 clip with 15 doubles, 7 dingers, 28 runs and 31 RBI in 45 contests. He was 9th in the league in average, tied for third in hits (56, even with Mychal Givens), tied for second in doubles (with McOwen) and tied for 7th in RBI. He fell to .247/.333/.371 in 2012-2013 but still made the Australian national team 2013 World Baseball Classic roster.
