Biographical Information[edit]
After 11 minor league seasons, catcher José Yepez was called up to the big league Seattle Mariners on June 29, 2011 after both M's catchers were injured during the previous game. While second stringer Chris Gimenez had to be placed on the 60-day disabled list, starter Miguel Olivo returned after missing five games. Josh Bard, also recalled from AAA Tacoma, caught every game in Olivo's absence. Yepez basically served as an emergency catcher and was designated for assignment on July 6th to make room for Kyle Seager on the offensively challenged M's active and 40-man rosters before having had a chance to make his major league debut.
Yepez became a coach for the Rome Braves in 2016. In 2017, he was appointed as a bullpen catcher with the Atlanta Braves.
