Biographical Information[edit]

José Roca has pitched in the Dominican Republic, USA, Venezuela, El Salvador and Nicaragua. He has been on the Salvadoran national team.

Roca was signed by Tampa Bay Rays scouts Marlon Roche and Ronnie Blanco in December 2015. [1] He was 2-1 with a save and a 1.36 ERA in 15 games for the 2016 DSL Rays 1 and 3-0 with two saves and a 3.12 ERA for the 2017 DSL Rays 2. He joined with Dauris Lopez and Ender Cespedes for a combined no-hitter of the DSL Astros Orange. [2] After walking 30 in 49 innings in '17, he was much sharper in 2018 (11 BB in 54 IP), which he split between the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1, 7 R in 6 IP), GCL Rays (4-0, Sv, 1.96 in 7 G) and DSL Rays 1 (2-0, 0.91 in 8 G) for a composite 6-1, 2.33 record. He was 3-3 with two saves and a 3.58 ERA for Hudson Valley in 2019 to end his US pro career at 14-5, 2.64 with six saves in 64 games.

The right-hander was 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA in 8 games for the Caribes de Anzoátegui in the winter of 2019-2020. He played in El Salvador in 2021. [3] In 2021-2022, he was 4-2 with a 4.08 ERA for Nicaragua's Indios del Bóer. Returning to them a year later, he slipped to 2-1, 7.89. He then appeared for El Salvador in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. He pitched in the opener against Curaçao, relieving Nelson Alfaro in the third with one out, two on and a surprising 2-1 lead. His defense didn't help as errors on the next two plays put El Salvador in a 3-2 hole and they wouldn't come out. He allowed 5 runs (one earned) on 5 hits and a walk in 2 1/3 IP; Williams Louico succeeded him. He next got the start versus the Dominican national team. He allowed a two-run homer in the first to Luis Valenzuela then blanked the islanders for the next three; it was 2-2 entering the 5th before he faded, allowing four more runs (three earned); Jhonny Bautista closed it out and Roca took the loss to Hansel Paulino.
