Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Luis Valenzuela was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an 18-year-old before the 2012 season. He played 9 games for the DSL Red Sox that year, hitting .133, and was released. He then hooked up with the Kansas City Royals, playing 5 games for the AZL Royals in 2013, where he hit .130. So far, his career had been pretty much a bust, but in 2014 he managed to play a full season with the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League and did a lot better. He hit .259 in 57 games as the team's starting second baseman, scoring 39 runs and driving 29. He was back with Idaho Falls to start 2015, but after hitting a scorching .486 in 8 games, he was promoted to the Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League at the beginning of July. There, he continued to hit very well. In 47 games at the higher level, he hit .339 with 29 runs scored while playing shortstop. Now on the prospect radar, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves on August 31st in return for major league OF Jonny Gomes.
