Biographical Information[edit]

Jorge Martínez has pitched in the minors and for the Colombian national team.

He was signed by San Francisco Giants scout Daniel Mavarez in July 2019. [1] The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He debuted in 2021 with the DSL Giants Black, going 0-4 with a 4.50 ERA and 27 K in 26 IP. That winter, he was 1-2 with a 7.97 ERA for the Vaqueros de Montería. He had a 2-3, 3.42 record for the 2022 DSL Giants Orange, with 67 strikeouts in 50 innings. He was 5th in the Dominican Summer League in strikeouts, between Miguel Pozo and Mauricio Estrella. That winter, he was 4-0 with 3 saves and a 5.40 ERA for the Vaqueros. He tied for second in the Colombian Winter League in wins.

The right-hander had another fine campaign with the DSL Giants Orange in 2023 (3-1, 2 Sv, 1.69 ERA, .97 WHIP, 37 K in 32 IP). He was with Colombia for the 2023 Pan American Games. He lost their opener to Cuba's Renner Rivero and a day later lost to Brazil's Oscar Nakaoshi. Those were Colombia's only two losses as they swept their final four games (in which Jorge pitched twice) to win their first Pan American Games Gold in baseball. His line for the event: 4 GP, 3 1/3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 6 K. He tied Sebastián Vega for the most losses, trailed only Samuel Zazueta and Carlos Díaz in appearances, tied for 8th in strikeouts but was third in walks (behind Felipe Natel and Emilio Germann-Cisterna). [2]

He had a fine winter, with three saves, a 0.57 ERA and .72 WHIP in 12 games, tying Jhon Peluffo for 6th in saves. The Giants let him go that spring, though.
