Biographical Information[edit]

Renner Rivero has pitched in Cuba and for the Cuban national team.

He debuted with his hometown Cocodrilos de Matanzas in the 2016-2017 Serie Nacional but struggled (3 H, 4 BB, 3 R in 1 1/3 IP). He was 2-1 with two saves and a 6.21 ERA in 2017-2018 and 0-2 with a 5.52 ERA in 2018-2019. He had a 4-1, 6.55 record in 2019-2020.

At age 24, he blossomed, going 10-5 with a 3.47 ERA in 2020-2021. He was among the ERA and win leaders; Beisbol Cubano lists slightly different stats than those just listed (which are from BR Register). Per their accounting, he was 5th with a 3.01 ERA (between Yadian Martínez and Yudier Rodríguez) and tied for 5th with 9 wins (even with Carlos Juan Viera, Carlos Font and Joel Mojena. [1] He was on Cuba's squad that finished second in the 2021 Caribbean Baseball Cup. [2]

Rivero was 7-5 with a 4.55 ERA for Matanzas in 2021-2022. He was 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA for the Centrales in the new Cuban Elite League in '22. He tied for 5th in wins. In the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he debuted against Gold Medal-bound Mexico. Relieving Franky Quintana with a 4-0 deficit in the 7th and final inning, one on and two outs, he retired Moisés Gutiérrez. His other game, he relieved Yunieski García and pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit. Cuba won the Silver Medal. [3] He had a 6-3, 3.70 record in the 2022-2023 Serie Nacional and 0-2 with a save and a 5.40 ERA in the postseason. He tied Denis Quesada and García for third in complete games (5) and was 3rd with 72 K (behind Geonel Gutiérrez and Naykel Cruz. [4] A highlight was a no-hitter, the 64th in league history. [5] He struck out 3 batters over 2 scoreless innings when Cuba won the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup and saved Yoennis Yera's win over Curaçao in the finale. [6] His busy year continued with Cuba in the 2023 Pan American Games.
