Biographical Information[edit]

Slugging third baseman/outfielder Jonathan Greene played in the Texas Rangers system from 2007 to 2011, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by the club in the 8th round of the 2007 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Chad Bettis. He was signed by scout Jim Cuthbert.

A catcher his first year, he debuted with a .248/.358/.476 line with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 58 games for the Spokane Indians in 2007, then hit .240/.349/.444 with 21 home runs, 84 RBI and 134 strikeouts in 128 games for the Clinton LumberKings in 2008. He was second in the Midwest League in home runs the latter year, behind Mike Moustakas' 22. Between two clubs in 2009, he hit .260/.335/.478 with 24 home runs, 88 RBI and 146 Ks in 126 games. After a down year in 2010 in which he hit just 9 homers with 35 RBI, he rebounded to hit .292/.354/.462 with 18 home runs, 75 RBI and a Texas League-leading 161 Ks in 130 games for the Frisco RoughRiders. Despite his performance, that was his final year in pro ball, as he retired on February 7, 2012.

Overall, he hit .257/.340/.454 with 83 home runs, 326 RBI and 575 Ks in 509 games over 5 seasons. He had a penchant for getting hit by pitch, as he was hit 102 times in his career—an average of 20 times per season—with a high of 36 in 2008. He ranked second in the Northwest League with 13 in 2007, behind J.D. Pruitt's 34. His 36 led the Midwest League in 2008, as he was 13 ahead of #2, Derrick Walker. His 21 led the California League in 2009 and his 19 in 2011 were second in the Texas League, behind Adam Heether's 22.

He was a Player of the Week twice, a Northwest League Post-Season All-Star in 2007, a Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star in 2008 and a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2011.
