Biographical Information[edit]
Jonash Ponce played on the Philippines national team that won Gold in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games. He went 4 for 24 for them in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, but had two assists in center field in 9 games; he did not produce a run. He remained with them for the 2006 Asian Games. Ponce was 1 for 8 in the 2007 Asian Championship and had one assist and one error in three games in center. He won Silver in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. In the 2009 Asian Championship, he was named one of the Best Players in round one. He won Gold in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games. He backed up at all three outfield spots in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, going 0 for 4 with an assist. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was one of only two actual Filipinos to bat (the other was Adriane Ros Bernardo) as Filipino-Americans dominated the playing time. He started in left field in game 2 against the New Zealand national team, going 1 for 4 with a run and a RBI while hitting 8th. He got his hit off former major leaguer Nick Maronde to score Brady Conlan and put the Philippines ahead 6-5 in the 6th, but they would lose it 17-7.
In the 2017 Asian Championship, he was 2 for 13 with four walks, two steals, homer (off Jayarathne Sanjeewa), two runs and five RBI. He tied Carlos Muñoz for the most RBI on the team.
