Biographical Information[edit]

Johnny Monell Sr. played in the minor leagues and CPBL. He is the father of Johnny Monell Jr.

Monell was signed by the New York Mets in 1985, and he hit .213/.277/.303 for the Little Falls Mets. He had a .260/.313/.380 batting line for the Columbia Mets in 1986, and he batted .282/.347/.402 in 1987. Monell then had a .283/.329/.367 batting line with 16 steals for the St. Lucie Mets in 1988, and he hit .310/.347/.431 in 80 games for the AA Jackson Mets in 1989. Monell reached AAA in 1990, but he only hit .182/.229/.182 in 13 games for the Tidewater Tides. He also had a .262/.326/.389 batting line for the Midland Angels.

After playing in Mexico for four seasons, Monell returned to organized baseball in 1995 and signed with the Texas Rangers. He played 121 games for AA Tulsa Drillers, and he crushed 12 homers with a .307/.402/.436 batting line. The Brother Elephants of the CPBL then signed him, and Monell hit .314/.390/.511 in 43 games in 1996. He had a .293/.405/.346 batting line with the Lubbock Crickets in 1997, and he hit .320/.399/.452 in 1998 for the Atlantic City Surf. Monell then recorded a .251/.364/.399 batting line in 1999, and he improved to .310/.366/.417 in 2000. He only played 7 games for the Surf in 2001, and he announced his retirement.
