John Mangieri pitched nine seasons in the minor leagues and two in Italy.
Mangieri was picked by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the 2007 amateur draft. He split that season between the GCL Mets (2-0, Sv, 7.08, 2.07 WHIP) and the Pittsfield Mets (3 R in 1 1/3 IP). In 1998, he was 1-1 with a save and a 6.61 ERA for the GCL Mets. New York let him go following that season.
Not done yet, Mangieri signed on with the independent Massachusetts Mad Dogs for 1999 and posted a 1-0, 5.82 record in 6 games. In 7 games for the 2000 New Jersey Jackals, he was 0-3 with a 8.44 ERA. In 2001, John went 4-2 with five saves and a 5.76 ERA in a career-best 41 outings.
The New Yorker spent 2002 with the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and was 1-4 with 3 saves, a 6.83 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. In '03, he allowed 7 runs in 8 2/3 innings for the Bridgeport Bluefish. He split 2004 between the Bangor Lumberjacks (1-0, Sv, 2.25 in 4 G) and Serie A1's T&A San Marino (1-1, Sv, 2.88, 15 H in 25 IP).
Back with San Marino in '05, Mangieri had a save and a 2.78 ERA in 15 outings. His performance in Italy's top league earned him a spot on Italy's roster for the 2006 World Baseball Classic but he did not pitch in the event itself.
Signed by the Florida Marlins, the right-hander finished his career in 2006 by going 3-2 with a save and a 3.07 ERA in 30 games for the Jupiter Hammerheads.
