Biographical Information[edit]
John Brown was a Negro League pitcher. He spent from 1936-1943 with lesser black teams (except for 1939, when he did not pitch) before debuting with the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1944 and going 2-5. He did not pitch in Cleveland's sweep of the Homestead Grays in the 1945 Negro World Series. Brown moved to the Chicago American Giants in 1946. In the first 1946 East-West Game, he pinch-hit for Johnny Williams in the 9th and was retired by Leon Day in a 6-3 loss for the West. After two years with Chicago, the little-used right-hander was back with Cleveland in 1948 and ended up with the Houston Eagles in 1949.
