Biographical Information[edit]
Jimmy Jones was signed as a 1st round pick in the 1982 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres and Scouting director Sandy Johnson.
Jones was a coach for the AZL Padres in 2009 and 2010, and San Antonio Missions in 2011 and 2012. He was promoted to the Padres big league staff early in 2012, filling in for Darrel Akerfelds, who was battling cancer. He returned to San Antonio in 2013-2018 and went to the Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2019 when Amarillo replaced San Antonio in the Texas League. He was scheduled to return to Amarillo in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19. Jones was pitching coach of the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2021-2022. He was assistant pitching coach of the El Paso Chihuahuas in 2024.
