Biographical Information[edit]
Jimmy Brown was a regular with the St. Louis Cardinals, seeing time all around with the infield with the club in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He won a World Series ring and earned an All-Star berth with the Cards in 1942, despite uninspiring numbers (.256/.315/.320 in 145 games) far below highs he had established in prior seasons. For instance, one year prior, in 1941, Brown batted a more robust .306/.363/.406 in 132 games.
Brown entered the Army in June 1943 and was discharged in October 1945, playing a final 79 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1946, to whom he had been sold for $30,000 in January. After his playing career ended, Brown was a Boston Braves coach from 1949 to 1951.
