Biographical Information[edit]

Ji-hoon Kim played in the KBO and for the South Korean national team.

Kim won Gold with South Korea in the 1997 Asian Championship, one of three backstops on the team alongside In-sung Cho and Kyung-hyun Shin. [1] He was a third-round pick of the Samsung Lions in the 1998 KBO draft. [2] He was 6 for 41 with 3 walks as a rookie in 1999 and did not play in 2000. In 2001, he went 6 for 34 with two doubles, a homer and a walk in 37 plate appearances between Samsung and the KIA Tigers. In 2002, he hit .229/.260/.438 with 3 homers in 52 plate appearances. He batted .212/.257/.394 in 39 games in 2003 and saw his most action his final season, 2004, hitting .292/.375/.458 in 56 plate appearances over 55 games, fielding .993 as the backup to Sang-hoon Kim. He had hit .216 in 194 plate appearances as a pro.

He later was a coach for KIA, both in the minors and for their top team, and also scouted for them from 2016-2018. [3] He coached for the Doosan Bears beginning in 2021. [4]
