Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Jesus Pirela began his professional career in 2007. He was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scouts Sal Agostinelli and Jesus Mendez on October 20, 2006.
He played in the Phillies system until 2011. After not playing in 2012, he went to Mexico, where – with the Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz in 2014 – he posted a 1.51 ERA with 20 saves and 42 games finished in 50 appearances. In 53 2/3 innings, he allowed only 24 hits, while striking out 61 batters. The Texas Rangers signed him for 2015 and he made the Texas League Mid-Season All-Star team. He also played in affiliated Triple-A for the first time that year, posting a 2.16 ERA in 8 1/3 innings for the Round Rock Express.
