Biographical Information

Jerry Stitt was an All-American player who reached AA in the minors and later became a college coach.

Stitt hit .366 in 1968 to win All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association; one of the other two outfielders picked was Tom Paciorek. Jerry was taken by the Cleveland Indians in the 32nd round of the 1968 amateur draft. He split 1968 between the Reno Silver Sox (25 for 87, 11 BB, 3 2B) and GCL Indians (7 for 25, 3 BB, HR). In 1969, he hit .222/.282/.291 in 66 games for the Waterbury Indians to end his playing career.

Jerry became coach of Salpointe Catholic High School in 1971. He earned his master's degree in education from the University of Arizona in 1973. In 1978, he returned to Arizona as an assistant baseball coach under the legendary Jerry Kindall. He attained a doctorate in educational administration from Arizona in 1993. In 1996, he succeeded the retiring Kindall as head coach. He went 157-124 in 5 years at the reigns, the shortest stint by an Arizona baseball coach since 1920-1921. During his time at Arizona, Stitt was hitting coach for Kenny Lofton, J.T. Snow, Casey Candaele, Terry Francona, Jack Daugherty and Ron Hassey.

Stitt was hitting coach of the Missoula Osprey in 2005-2007. He was hired as assistant athletic director at Pima Community College in September 2008 [1].
