Biographical Information

Legally blind in his left eye, pitcher Jeff Seale was nonetheless selected by the New York Mets in the second round of the 1988 amateur draft. The 51st overall pick, he was the second pitcher taken by New York, after Dave Proctor. The three players taken immediately in front of him (Bob Hamelin, Chris Nabholz and Alan Newman) and the one taken right after (Dave Silvestri) all wound up in the majors. Seale did not sign and went to the University of Texas instead. He later transferred to San Jacinto College, where Andy Pettitte was a teammate, and also played one year at the University of Miami. He was taken in the 32nd round of the 1991 amateur draft by the the Cleveland Indians and went to work for his family's software company instead.

Seale passed away in 2011 at the age of 40 after being bitten 19 times by a black widow spider
