Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Matulevich pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Matulevich was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a non-drafted free agent , and he went 3-4 with a 3.79 ERA for the Johnson City Cardinals in 1992. He had a 4.80 ERA for the Savannah Cardinals in 34 games in 1993, and he notched 30 saves with a 2.84 ERA in 47 relief outings for the Madison Hatters in 1994. Matulevich led the Midwest League in saves (after not having a saved a game in either prior season), and he was 6th in appearances (between Matt Mantei and Jim Boynewicz). He did not win MWL All-Star honors as Hank Tagle and Matt Mantei were the selected relievers. He collected 30 saves again in 1995, and his ERA was 2.76 in 51 games for the St. Petersburg Cardinals. He was second in the Florida State League in saves (two behind Joe Jacobsen), and he was 10th in appearances (between Scott Pisciotta and Steve Sinclair). Among Cards farmhands, only Steve Montgomery and Travis Welch had more saves.

In 1996, Matulevich had a 3.64 ERA in 41 games for the Arkansas Travelers, going 4-3 with a save. He then was 4-2 with 8 saves and a 5.97 ERA in 37 games for the independent Abilene Prairie Dogs and Amarillo Dillas in 1997, and his ERA was 3.47 in 46 games with the Nashua Pride in 1998 (he was 2-4 with four saves). He tied Tano Tijerina for second in the Texas-Louisiana League in saves. The Mercuries Tigers of Taiwan signed him in 1999, and Matulevich had a 3.25 ERA in 35 relief outings. He tied Jen-Wen Hsiao for 6th in appearances in the CPBL. Matulevich announced his retirement after the 1999 season.
