Biographical Information[edit]

Jacobo Sequea pitched eight seasons in the minor leagues, with parts of two years at AAA.

Sequeua was signed by scout Johnny Almaraz for the Cincinnati Reds and started off at age 16 with the 1998 Charleston Alley Cats, unusual for a 16-year-old to be pitching in a full-season A league. He was 3-5 with a 6.02 ERA. The next-youngest player on the team was three years older. In 1999, he was 4-6 with a 4.92 ERA for the Rockford Reds and pitched two innings for the GCL Reds.

He was dealt to the Baltimore Orioles with B.J. Ryan in exchange for Juan Guzman and went 0-2 with a 3.90 ERA for the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Jacobo had a 9-11, 5.09 record for the 2000 Frederick Keys, still his team's youngest player. In 2001, he went 6-9 with a 3.97 ERA for the Keys. He split 2002 between the Bowie Baysox (1-6, 5.40) and Rochester Red Wings (1-4, 5.27). In 2003, he was 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA for Bowie and was back with Frederick, now as a reliever, going 1-0 with 20 saves and a 2.87 ERA.

Sequea had a good 2004 campaign as Bowie's closer, posting a 3-5, 2.62 record with 27 saves. He held opponents to a .213 average and led Baltimore farmhands in saves, only four behind Eastern League leader Bobby Korecky. Despite being in his 7th season, he was still younger than most of the team's other pitchers.

Sequea began 2006 with the Ottawa Lynx, his second time in AAA. He was 0-1 with 5 saves and a 7.58 ERA in 18 games, then was claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals. Sent to the Harrisburg Senators, he had a 1-1 record with two saves and a 6.68 ERA in 20 games, allowing a .361 opponent average. That ended his career.

Sequea is with Venezuela for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

His brother, Jorge Sequea, played in the minor leagues from 2001 to 2005.
