Biographical Information[edit]

Iyad Ansari has been on the Pakistani national team.

Ansari was on Pakistan's announced team for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [1] He was Pakistan's starting backstop in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, one of four Canadian-born players on the squad alongside Adam Khan, Amar Mahmood and Osman Buttar. He started their opener at catcher, batting second. He drew a walk from Argentina's Lucas Ramón his first time up and went 2 for 4 the rest of the day, including a double off Ramón. Playing first base their other game, he was 1 for 2 with a walk, doubling off Joaquin Acuna and drawing a walk from Rodney Theophile. The rest of his teammates only reached three times. He tied for 5th in the qualifiers in average, was 7th in OBP, tied Melvin Novoa and D'Shawn Knowles for 10th in slugging and was 8th in OPS (between William Germaine and Knowles). He tied Alex Khan for the Pakistani lead in hits, had two of their three extra-base hits and half their walks, leading the squad in all rate stats. [2]
