Biographical Information[edit]
In-wook Jeong pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Jeong was drafted by the Samsung Lions in the 3rd round of the 2009 KBO draft, and he was 4-2 with a 5.31 ERA in 2010. He improved to 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 2011, and he allowed 3 runs in 2 games in the 2011 Korean Series. The Lions beat the SK Wyverns in 5 games, and Jeong won his first title. He had a 2.49 ERA in 13 games in 2012, and he represented Korea in the 2012 Asian Championship. Jeong struck out 8 in 6 shutout innings as the starter against China, and he got the win over Yu Liu. He struck out another 5 batters in 3 2/3 innings against Chinese Taipei and Korea won Bronze in the event. Jeong got the ERA title of the event, and he tied Ryo Akiyoshi for most strikeouts. He missed the next two seasons due to military service.
However, Jeong never returned to his prior performance after returning from the military. He had a 8.28 ERA in 12 games in 2015, and he went 4-7 with a 6.81 ERA in 2016. Jeong struggled again in 2017, and he went 1-4 with a 9.84 ERA. He was moved to the bullpen in 2018, and he bounced back as his ERA was 3.48 in 19 games. However, the '18 season was Jeong's last productive one, and his ERA rose to 7.06 in 12 games in 2019. He recorded a 8.44 ERA in 5 appearances in 2020, and he was released. The Hanwha Eagles signed him, but his ERA was 4.82 in 8 games in 2021 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Jeong was 19-20 with a 5.50 ERA, struck out 313 in 406 innings in 10 seasons in the KBO.
