Biographical Information[edit]
Ho-Ying Au has pitched for the Hong Kong women's national team.
She debuted in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup at age 16. She was the only Hong Kong hurler to work a scoreless inning against champion Japan as Japan scored 19 in 5 innings. Against Australia, she relieved two hurlers who had failed to get an out - Hei-Ting Lau and Yee-Wan Lam. She and Thari Diefenbach were the only pitchers on either side to work a scoreless inning in Hong Kong's 19-11 win over the Netherlands. For the Cup, she had a 12.25 ERA in four games. Only Yik-Shan Hung (2.56) had a better ERA for Hong Kong, which had a 14.14 ERA. She tied Anouk Vergunst, Lam and Ayami Sato for the most games pitched in the event. [1] She was their youngest player still by the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup. In that event, she was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA, losing to Meggie Meidlinger and Team USA but beat Pakistan and Mariam Shafiq (1 R in 6 IP). She tied Lam for the team lead in IP (9 1/3 IP) in the Cup, tied Tak-Kwan Fan for the win lead on the team and tied Fan for the most Ks (3). [2]
In the 2017 Women's Baseball Asian Cup, Au went the distance against powerhouse Japan, losing a 2-0 pitching duel against the combined efforts of Ayumi Ono, Runa Matsushima and Mayu Himeno. She finished 4th in the event in ERA (1.00), behind Himeno, Chiao-Yun Huang and Mi-ran Lee. The right-hander lost to Australia and Sinead Flanigan and Puerto Rico and Noelia De Jesús in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup. She tied for third in the Cup in losses (one behind Ching-Wen Hu and Marlenny Quero), tied Ting Fung for second in runs allowed (17, 3 behind Quero) but only three of them were earned. Only Hung had a better ERA for Hong Kong. [3]
