Biographical Information[edit]

Hisashi Kondo pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Kondo was signed by the Dai Tokyo club when they were founded in 1936, and he was named the starter of the first Japan Professional Baseball League game. He allowed 8 runs in 8 innings, and he got the first complete game and first loss in NPB history. Kondo ended up 0-4 with a 5.35 ERA in the spring season in 1936, and he was 0-4 with a 4.32 ERA in the fall season. He improved to 11-10 with a 2.51 ERA in the spring season in 1937, and he was 5th in wins (tied with Masaru Kageura) and 6th in strikeouts (between Victor Starffin and Yukio Nishimura). He slumped to 3-11 with a 5.87 ERA in the fall season, then he bounced back in 1938. Kondo was 2-5 with a 3.06 ERA in the spring season, then he went 5-6 with a 2.67 ERA in the fall season. He had a 3-12 record with a 3.36 ERA in 1939, and he went 9-22 with a 2.57 ERA in 1940. He was 6th in losses (between Hideo Shimizu and Isamu Fukushi) and 6th in strikeouts (between Masayoshi Nakayama and Yoshio Kikuya) in 1940. Kondo announced his retirement after the 1940 season.

Overall, Kondo was 33-74 with a 3.25 ERA, struck out 500 and pitched 1,021 2/3 innings in 5 years in NPB. As of 2023, he was 82nd in walks in NPB, between Shizuo Shiraishi and Kenichi Nakata.
