Biographical Information[edit]

Isamu Fukushi started his professional career in the fall of 1938 with Lion as a catcher. He hit .176/.364/.176 in seven games. Converting to pitching primarily in '39, he had a 12-19, 2.82 season and followed with a 7-1, 2.80 year. In 1941, he had his most active year, going 17-28 with a 1.88 ERA. He led the Japanese Professional Baseball League in almost every negative or neutral pitching category - games (57), innings (396 2/3), losses, batters faced (1,684), complete games (31), hits allowed (293), walks (234), hit batters (8), runs (121) and earned runs allowed (83). In the next season, Isamu had a 9-9, 1.87 record to complete his career with a 45-77, 2.33 record. He was drafted into the Japanese military in 1942 and was killed two years later in combat in Luzon in the Philippines.
