Biographical Information[edit]
Hiroki Ohnishi has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Ohnishi was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the fourth round of the 2019 NPB draft, and he only pitched 5 games in 2020.[1] He had a 2.82 ERA with 7 holds in 33 games in 2021, and he pitched an inning with a run allowed in the 2021 Nippon Series Game 5. The Swallows beat the Orix Buffaloes in 6 games, and Ohnishi won his first title. He then pitched 43 games in 2022, but his ERA rose to 4.45. Ohnishi allowed a run in 2 innings in the 2022 Nippon Series Game 2, and the Buffaloes beat the Swallows in 7 games this time.
He notched 6 holds with a 3.60 ERA in 46 games in 2023, and he was selected into the 2024 NPB All-Star Game. He took over for Takuma Kirishiki in Game 2. Ohnishi retired Ryosuke Tatsumi, gave up a double to Toshiya Satoh and forced Daigo Kamikawabata to hit a fly ball. However, Kotaro Kurebayashi then crushed a 2-run homer, and Hiromi Oka added a double. Shun Mizutani, Kensuke Kondoh and Yuya Gunji then hit three straight singles, but Kondoh was tagged out after Gunji's hit to end the inning; Raidel Martinez succeeded him.[2]
Ohnishi's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 94.4 mph, a forkball, cutter, shuuto, sinker and a slider.
