Biographical Information[edit]
Hee-soo Moon played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 12 years.
Moon was drafted by the Haitai Tigers in the first round of the 1984 KBO draft, and he had a 4.26 ERA in 5 games in his first season. Moon then went 12-8 with a 3.48 ERA in 1985, and he was 6th in wins (13 behind Si-jin Kim and Hisao Niura). He was 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 1986, then his ERA was 2.14 with a 7-7 record in 22 games in 1987. He was 3rd in ERA in 1987, between Yong-soo Kim and Hee-min Han. He won Game 3 of the 1987 Korean Series, beating the Samsung Lions' Young-ho Kwon. His team swept the Series. Moon was 8-7 with a 3.02 ERA in 1988, and he shined in the 1988 Korean Series. He collected a save for Dong-yol Son in Game 1, then he shut out the Binggrae Eagles in Game 3 to beat Dae-jung Kim. Moon added another win in Game 6 in a rematch with Dae-jung Kim, and he was named the Korean Series MVP.
The Gwangju native was 6-10 with a 3.93 ERA in 1989, and he was 9th in losses (5 behind Cheong-soo Kim). Moon then had a 2.50 ERA in 5 games in 1990, and he went 4-0 with a 2.88 ERA in 1991. He struggled in 1992 as his ERA rose to 5.08 with a 10-8 record, and he went 5-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 1993. Moon pitched 18 games with a 5.40 ERA in 1994, then he announced his retirement after having a 7.98 ERA in 6 games in 1995. He was the minor league pitching coach for the Tigers from 1998 to 2003, and he coached Donggang University from 2004 to 2015 and Youngsun High School from 2016 to 2019. He also coached the South Korea national baseball team in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup.
Overall, Moon was 59-49 with a 3.68 ERA, struck out 439 and pitched 943 1/3 in 12 seasons in the KBO.
