Biographical Information[edit]
Cheong-soo Kim pitched in the KBO for 6 years.
Kim was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the first round of the 1989 KBO draft, and he went 7-15 with a 3.38 ERA in his first season. He was one of three pitchers in KBO history (through 2024) who pitched more than 200 innings but didn't get 10 wins (the other two were Dong-won Choi and Merrill Kelly), and he led the league in losses. He was also 6th in strikeouts, between Jung-hyun Park and Myeong-sun Ryu. Kim then had a 11-12 record with a 3.82 ERA in 1990, and he was 3rd in losses (1 behind Kye-hyun Cho and Hyung-cheol Gye). He was 10-10 with a 3.83 ERA in 1991, and he led the league with 20 homers allowed (tied with Chang-ho Choi and Kang-chul Lee). However, Kim slumped to 5.23 ERA in 14 games in 1992, and he only pitched two more games before he announced his retirement in 1994. He later coached Busan High School and Sekwang High School, and he was named the coach of Daegu Arts University in 2023.
Overall, Kim was 31-38 with a 3.88 ERA, struck out 262 and pitched 566 2/3 innings in 6 seasons in the KBO.
