Biographical Information

Catcher Hector Sanchez was signed by scout Ciro Villalobos for the San Francisco Giants in 2006. He made his pro debut in 2007 and spent his first two pro campaigns with the DSL Giants. He reached the majors with San Francisco in 2011 and was part of their World Series-winning team in 2012, when he served as the primary back-up for MVP winner Buster Posey. He hit .280 with 3 homers and 34 RBI in 74 games that year, a performance that convinced manager Bruce Bochy to use him as the team's DH in Game 3 of the Series against the Detroit Tigers on October 27th. He went 0 for 4 facing Anibal Sanchez, but the Giants won the game, 2-0 on their way to a Series sweep.

On August 15, 2013, Sanchez won a game for the Giants with a three-run pinch-hit homer off closer Rafael Soriano of the Washington Nationals with two outs in the 9th inning, giving the Giants a come-from-behind 4-3 win. On April 23, 2014, he hit a pair of homers including a grand slam off Chad Bettis in the 11th inning to lead the Giants to a 12-10 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Sanchez' 2014 season ended early due to a bout with concussions. At the age of 24, having his least productive season in the majors, Sanchez left a game on July 25th after having taken a foul ball off his mask. While rehabbing with the Fresno Grizzlies on August 16th, Sanchez then took a second foul ball off his mask and never returned to action in 2014, with complaints of persistent headaches. In 177 plate appearances in the big leagues, he hit .196 with 3 home runs and 28 RBI. In his absence, Andrew Susac took over as Buster Posey's main back-up, while the Giants went on to win their third World Series title in five years.
