Biographical Information[edit]

Hamidou Kafando was on the first team from Burkina Faso in a major tournament, the 2019 Africa Cup Baseball Championship. A corner infielder-pitcher, he was both the team's top offensive force (.467/.652/.600, 5 R, 5 RBI, 7 BB in 5 G) and the most-used hurler (0-1, 7.20), taking the loss against Zimbabwe in the 3rd/4th place game. He had the team's best ERA on a team with an ERA of 14.96. He led the tournament in walks (one ahead of Junior Zabré and Tyler Croft), was 10th in OBP, was 10th in OPS (between Haydn Mathee and Croft), had the lowest K rate of any batter (0 K in 23 AB; MVP Kyle Botha was next at 0 in 20), pitched the most innings (4 ahead of Cliff Vint), allowed the most hits (24, one more than Hloniphane Nglilube), tied for 2nd with 3 games pitched (one behind Nglilube), allowed the most runs (22, two ahead of Aziz Bonkoungou), tied for 4th in earned runs allowed (12), was 3rd in walks issued (7), tied Jared Elario for 4th in strikeouts (8) and was 4th among qualifiers in ERA (after Elario, Robert Lewis-Walker and Nglilube).
