Guojun Lai (賴國鈞)

Guojun Lai has pitched and coached for the Chinese national team.

Lai appeared in the 1998 Asian Games and 1998 Baseball World Cup; in his lone appearance in the World Cup, he went the distance in a 4-1 loss to highly favored Japan, striking out six and allowing 7 hits and 4 walks against a team which included Shinnosuke Abe and Tomohiro Nioka. Lai was with China in the 2002 Asian Games. He played for the Guangdong Leopards when they joined the China Baseball League and became a coach with them in 2005.

Lai pitched for China in the 2005 Baseball World Cup; his five appearances tied Tao Bu for the team lead and he got the win over the Swedish national team. Guojun gave up 15 hits in 9 2/3 IP but fanned 11; he had a 5.59 ERA for the Cup. He coached for China in the 2005 Asian Championship.

Lai was a player-coach for China in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He pitched the 8th inning in a loss to South Korea. Seung-yeop Lee greeted him with a home run. He recovered to get Tae-kyun Kim on a fly. Jin-young Lee doubled, but Bum-ho Lee and In-sung Cho grounded out to end the inning.

The Guangdong Province native coached for China in the 2006 Haarlem Baseball Week and 2006 Asian Games (when he was also on the playing roster).
