Biographical Information[edit]

Gene Richardson was a Negro League pitcher for seven years, making one All-Star team.

Richardson debuted with the 1947 Kansas City Monarchs but saw little action his first two years. He was the West starter for the 1949 East-West Game and allowed four hits, two walks and two runs (one earned) in three innings while whiffing two before Bill Greason relieved him. He was 0 for 1 at the plate and took the decision in a 4-0 loss. Gene opened the game by walking Pee Wee Butts and Fernando Pedroso on eight pitches. He got one out, then Bus Clarkson connected for a RBI single. In the second, Howard Easterling singled and later came around on a hit by pitcher Bob Griffith.

Gene split 1951 between the Baltimore Black Sox and the Monarchs, but otherwise spent his entire 1947-1953 career with Kansas City.
