Biographical Information[edit]
In college, Gary Gilmore hit .353 with 69 steals in 90 games over two seasons at Coastal Carolina University. He possibly joined the Philadelphia Phillies organization, but never appeared on the field. Gilmore then scouted for the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians.
Turning to the college game, Gilmore was an assistant at USC Aiken, then head coach from 1990 to 1995. He took the school to the 1991 NAIA College World Series and the 1993 Division II College World Series. In six years the Pacers posted a 256-102-2 mark under Gilmore.
Gilmore then returned to his alma mater, where he has been head coach since 1996, winning over 900 games and taking the school to the NCAA postseason 15 out of the last 18 years (through 2018). Gilmore retired after the 2024 season.
