Biographical Information[edit]
Fumiya Ono has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Ono was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the second round of the 2014 NPB draft, but he spent the most of his first five seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, only pitching 39 games combined with the big club.[1] When Rakuten signed Daichi Suzuki in 2019, the Chiba Lotte Marines selected him as compensation.[2] Ono soon became an important part of Chiba Lotte's bullpen. He recorded a 3.23 ERA in 40 appearances in 2020, then collected 8 holds with a 3.48 ERA in 2021. He pitched a shutout inning in Game 2 of the final stage in the 2021 PLCS, and the Marines were swept by the Orix Buffaloes.
The Kurume native had his career year so far in 2022. He notched 18 holds with a solid 1.99 ERA in 44 appearances, and attended the 2022 NPB All-Star Game. Ono relieved Keisuke Honda in the 6th inning of Game 1 and pitched a shutout inning. He then replaced Nao Higashihama in the 5th inning of Game 2, struck out Adam Walker and collected another shutout inning. Thanks to Yuki Yanagita's clutch solo shot in the 6th inning, Ono got the win over Suguru Iwazaki and the Central League.[3] Unfortunately, he suffered a right elbow injury, so he only pitched 10 games in 2023.
Ono's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 97.5 mph, a forkball, curve, changeup, cutter and a slider.
