Biographical Information[edit]
Keisuke Honda has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Honda was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 NPB draft, but he spent the most of his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, only pitching 8 games combined with the big club.[1] He also represented Japan in the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup and won Gold. He was 1-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 20 K in 17 IP; he was second in Ks after Chae-heung Choi. [2] Honda joined the rotation in 2019, and he recorded a 4.63 ERA with 6 wins in 16 starts. However, he struggled in 2020, so he only pitched 13 games combined from 2020 to 2021.[3]
The Sendai native broke out as a reliever in 2022. He collected 20 holds with a solid 1.97 ERA, and ranked 9th in holds (14 behind Kaima Taira). He was selected for the Pacific League league squad in the 2022 NPB All-Star Game, and relieved Takahiro Norimoto in the 5th inning of Game 1. Honda struck out Teruaki Sato, but allowed a single to Dayán Viciedo. He retired Keita Sano and Takuya Kinoshita to end this inning, then Fumiya Ono replaced him.[4] Honda extended his solid performance in 2023, having a 1.56 ERA in 25 relief outings.
Honda's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 91.3 mph, a forkball, curve, changeup, cutter and a slider.
