Biographical Information[edit]

Feng-Yu Weng was a 2-time All-Star in the CPBL.

Weng represented Taiwan in the 1988 Haarlemse Honkbalweek and the 1989 World Port Tournament. The Mercuries Tigers signed Weng in 1990 when the league were founded, and he was 8-5 with a 5.30 ERA in 1990. He pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings in the 1990 Taiwan Series, but the Tigers were beaten by the Wei Chuan Dragons in 6 games. Weng slumped to 1-3 with a 5.82 ERA in the next season, then he bounced back in 1992 while having a 6-5 record with a 4.57 ERA. He was 3-6 with a 3.57 ERA in 1993.

The Kinmen native was 8-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 1994, and he ranked 10th with his 89 strikeouts (between Ming-Shan Kang and Chin-Hsing Kuo). He was 2-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 1995, then he struggled in 1996 as his ERA rose to 5.44. Weng bounced back in 1997 and he was selected into the 1997 CPBL All-Star Game; he didn't pitched in the game through. He ended up 9-5 with a 3.22 ERA, and he was 8th in wins (6 behind Chun-Liang Wu). Weng had a 2-5 record with a 4.93 ERA in 1998, then he had a 5-6 record with a 3.69 ERA in 1999.

When the Tigers were expelled after the 1999 season, Weng went to the Sinon Bulls, and he was named their closer. He collected 12 saves with a 3.18 ERA in a league-leading 48 appearances, and he also had 8 wins. Weng was 2nd in saves (1 behind Maximo De La Rosa) and he won the CPBL Most Improved Player Award. He was selected into the 2000 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched 4 shutout innings. In the 2000 Taiwan Series, Weng pitched 2 innings with a run allowed in Game 1, then he notched a save with 2 shutout innings in Game 5. He surrendered 2 runs in 2 innings in Game 6, and the Bulls named him the starter of Game 7. Weng allowed 3 runs in 3 innings, and John Burgos of the Uni-President Lions outdueled him.

Weng had a 2.14 ERA in 17 games in 2001, then he jumped to the Taipei Gida. He had a 3.18 ERA in 12 games for Gida in 2001, then his ERA was 3.61 in 28 games in 2002. The two leagues merged in 2003, and Weng was assigned to the First Financial Holdings Agan. He had a 4.24 ERA in 28 games in 2003, then he announced his retirement after recording a 3.55 ERA in 10 relief outings in 2004. Weng then coached Ku Pao Home Economics & Commercial High School from 2005 to 2006, Tung Shih High School from 2007 to 2009, Shi-Yuan High School from 2011 to 2017 and he managed Tatung Institute of Commerce and Technology from 2018 to 2020.

Weng's repertoire included a fastball (peak 90.7 mph), slider, curveball and forkball.

Overall, Weng was 62-64 with a 4.07 ERA, struck out 757 and pitched 1,188 1/3 innings in 16 seasons in the TML and CPBL. As of 2023, he ranked 17th in wins (between Yi-Chuan Liu and Burgos), 9th in innings (between Jonathan Hurst and Chao-Huang Lin) and 14th in strikeouts (between Kai-Wen Cheng and Jose De Paula).
