Biographical Information

Catcher Eric Langill played as high as AAA.

He was selected by the Montreal Expos as a draft-and-follow in the 34th round of the 1999 amateur draft and made his pro debut the following summer with the Vermont Expos. He was just 6 for 44 with 7 walks, a double, 14 strikeouts, 3 runs and 7 RBI as the team's #3 backstop. In 2001, he saw the most playing time of his career with the Clinton LumberKings, hitting .201/.301/.284 in 47 games and hitting his only professional home run.

He moved on to the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2002 and spent five years in their chain. He split 2002 between the Great Falls Dodgers (6 for 15, 2 2B, 5 R, 6 RBI), South Georgia Waves (2 for 13) and the Jacksonville Suns (3 for 20, BB, 9 K, R, RBI). In 2003, he hit .246/.288/.275 in 27 games for the Vero Beach Dodgers, serving as the third-string backstop. The next year, he played sparingly for Jacksonville (2 for 15, 2B) and the Las Vegas 51s (5 for 26, 2B). Backing up fellow Canadian Russell Martin for the 2005 Suns, producing at a .266/.317/.266 in 35 games but only throwing out 11% of attempted base-stealers. He also was with Team Canada in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, backing up Luke Carlin behind the plate. He was 1 for 11 with two walks and five whiffs in the Cup, though he did throw out the only runner who tried to steal. He split 2006 between the Suns (3 for 15, 3 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI) and 51s (.182/.269/.217 in 35 G). Overall, he had played 201 games in the minors, batting .210/.276/.256 in 589 plate appearances, with 48 runs and 46 RBI. He had fielded .986 with 16 passed balls in 161 games at catcher while throwing out 18% of runners who tried to steal.

Since 2011, Langill has been one of the bullpen catchers for the New York Mets.
