Biographical Information

Enny Romero reached the major leagues in 2013.

Romero signed with the Tampa Bay Rays June 2, 2008, at age 16. The scout was Eddy Toledo. In his pro debut with the DSL Rays that summer, he was 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA and 20 whiffs in 16 1/3 IP. In 2009, he had a 2-4, 4.81 record for the GCL Rays with 21 walks in 39 1/3 innings. He excelled in 2010 with the Princeton Rays (4-1, 1.95, 72 K in 69 1/3 IP, .94 WHIP) and Hudson Valley Renegades (1-0, 1 R in 5 IP). He led the Appalachian League in ERA and was third in whiffs (3 behind Spencer Arroyo and 2 behind Manuel Soliman). Baseball America listed him as the Appy's #2 prospect, between Carlos Perez and Oswaldo Arcia. Ryan Copeland beat him out as the Appalachian League All-Star southpaw.

In 2011, Romero was 5-5 with a 4.26 ERA for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. He walked 68 and threw 14 wild pitches in 114 innings but struck out 140. He was second in the Midwest League in walks (one shy of Tanner Robles) and was 5th in whiffs (between Daniel Renken and Trevor Rosenthal). Baseball America listed him as the #15 MWL prospect (between Drew Hutchison and Daniel Corcino) and as the #8 Rays prospect (between Tim Beckham and Drew Vettleson).

Enny opened 2012 with the Charlotte Stone Crabs and was 3-3 with a 3.04 ERA after 16 games, with a .208 opponent average but 46 walks in 83 innings. He pitched for the World team in the 2012 Futures Game, working the 5th inning of a 17-5 loss to the US. Relieving Felipe Rivero, he retired Scooter Gennett, allowed a Wil Myers single, got Mike Olt on a fly, allowed a single to Jonathan Singleton then got another fly out, this one from Nolan Arenado. Ariel Pena replaced him on the hill to open the 6th.
