Biographical Information[edit]

Edgar Torres has pitched in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

He debuted in 2015 with the Sultanes de Monterrey; a LOOGY, he worked 14 innings over 24 games, with a 3.86 ERA. He also made his winter league debut but gave up five runs in one inning for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo. He had a 2-0, 2.81 record in 34 games (25 2/3 IP) for Monterrey in 2016. That winter, he was 4-3 with a save and a 5.12 ERA for Hermosillo. In '17, he was 3-0 but with a 6.93 ERA, only working 24 2/3 innings over 41 games. He had a rough winter at 1-0 with 9 runs in 5 1/3 IP.

The Mexican League went to a two-season format in 2018. He split the spring season between Monterrey (7 R in 7 2/3 IP) and the Generales de Durango (1-2, 5.11 in 10 G). In the fall, he was 4-2 but with a 7.12 ERA for Durango. He was 1-0 in nine games in the 2018-2019 Mexican Pacific League, splitting time between Hermosillo and the Venados de Mazatlán. In the 2019 Caribbean Series, he pitched two shutout innings over four outings. He tied Manny Corpas, Liván Moinelo and Jake Sanchez for the event lead in appearances. In 2019, he was 0-2 with a 5.83 ERA in 55 games for Durango. For the Venados that winter, he was 4-6 with a 3.96 ERA, being used as part of the regular rotation. Only Luis Payan had more losses in the LMP that season. He was excellent in the 2020 Caribbean Series, allowing only one hit and one walk in 8 2/3 shutout innings for the Tomateros de Culiacán. He and Mario Meza combined on a one-hitter against the Vaqueros de Montería. He was named the event's All-Star starting pitcher. [1]

After the 2020 LMB season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a 2-5, 4.29 winter for the Venados. He tied for 5th in losses. Moving to the Diablos Rojos del México for 2021, he was 7-0 with a 3.38 ERA. He was one win behind LMB leader Masaru Nakamura. In the winter, he had a 5-1, 3.67 campaign, tying for 8th in victories. In 2022, he slipped to 0-1, 10.59 for the Diablos Rojos. Moving to the Mayos de Navojoa in the winter, he was 5-6 with a 4.18 ERA and walked only 14 in 71 innings. He tied for 9th in wins and tied for the most losses.

He had a busy 2023. He pitched for the Diablos Rojos (17 H, 9 R in 7 2/3 IP) and the Guerreros de Oaxaca (2-5, 8.14). He then made it onto Mexico's team for the 2023 Pan American Games. In his lone appearance for the Bronze Medal winners, he closed out a 10-2 loss to champion Colombia. Relieving Samuel Zazueta, he walked José Ramos and Carlos Martínez singled but Jaider Morelos hit into a double play and Derwin Pomare flew out. [2] He then continued in winter ball with Monterrey.
