Biographical Information[edit]

Edgar Ramírez pitched as high as AAA.

Edgar had a 3.44 ERA and six saves for Florida International in 2003 but missed most of 2004 with an arm injury. In 2005, he transferred to LSU and was 0-1 with a save and a 4.50 ERA. The next year, he was 2-1 with a 6.69 ERA and .345 opponent average. The New York Mets still took him in the 36th round of the 2006 amateur draft; the scout was Benny Latino. He made his pro debut with the Kingsport Mets and went 2-3 with a save and a 3.53 ERA. In 2007, the big righty was 4-0 with a save and a 3.07 ERA for the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The Miami native split 2008 between the Savannah Sand Gnats (3-1, Sv, 3.13 in 14 G) and St. Lucie Mets (1-1, 4.75 in 14 G). In 2009, he appeared for St. Lucie (3-1, 3 Sv, 2.36 in 24 G), the Binghamton Mets (0-2, 6.66 in 14 G) and the Buffalo Bisons (1 R in 2 IP). A year later, he was a mainstay of the Binghamton bullpen, going 6-1 with a save and a 4.93 ERA. In 2011, he went 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA for Binghamton. During 2012, he pitched for Binghamton (1-1, 4.46 in 28 G) and Buffalo (0-1, 5.14 in 4 G).

Ramírez then pitched for the Nicaraguan national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Starting against host Panama, he was roughed up for 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 runs (3 earned) in 3 2/3 IP in taking the loss; Berman Espinosa relieved. He helped Nicaragua to a Gold Medal in the 2013 Central American Games.
